Plant raw peanuts, shelled but with the papery skin intact, 3–5 cm (1–2 in) deep and 15–20 cm (6–8 in) apart. Unshelled pods also work but emerge more slowly. Fields are typically planted with about 100–140 kg of seed per hectare (90–125 lb/acre), more for large-seeded Virginia types.
